Category: Parks / Open Spaces The Orangutan Holding Building is one of several ongoing projects at the Houston Zoo as part of their Centennial Campaign. This building is considered the first phase of the overall project, with the Orangutan Exhibit being the second phase of the complete make-over of the existing exhibit. The project consisted of the fabrication and installation of new interior caging, transfer tunnels within the building to each holding area, installation of a transfer tunnel thru the roof structure and into the exhibit, and all related structural modifications and roof replacement. Category: Office / Corporate (New | Major Addition) The MetaRock Laboratories project consisted of a 53,000 square foot building which serves as MetaRocks separate standalone facility for SEPCo (Shell Exploration & Production Company). The first floor of the building houses state-of-the-art petrophysical laboratories for the mining and offshore petroleum industry, including Petrology & Geology laboratories, EPSLOG-Core DNA laboratories, Geomechanics Log Analysis laboratories, and the Fluids & EOR laboratories. The facility also has 8,200 square feet of negative 20 degree freezers compartmentalized with N+2 redundancy along with another 2,000 square feet of 35 degree coolers. Additionally, the facility hosts a full-size, medical grade CT and micro CT suite, core storage, rock shop, and warehouse space. Category: Healthcare (New | Major Addition) CHI St. Luke's Springwoods Village Hospital is a LEED Silver certified, six-story, 155,000 square-foot full-service hospital serving the Springwoods Village development in North Houston. Constructed on a 23-acre site, the campus includes a 55,000-square-foot ambulatory medical center and 100,000 square-foot medical office building. The hospital possesses all of the aspects one would hope for in a full-service healthcare facility. It features emergency rooms, pre-op and post-op surgical services, primary care services, diagnostic imaging, central sterile area, fully functioning kitchen, endoscopy services, and patient rooms. The top floor of the hospital is reserved for the mechanical systems. The campus also features a tree reserve with additions and replacements for those which were removed for construction. For each tree removed, two more were planted in the reserve. The first two floors of the building are reserved for hospital operations. The medical office building is located on floors three through six. Each of these floors possesses 25,000 square feet of shell space totaling 100,000 square feet of medical office space. Category: Education - K-12 - ISD The reconstruction of Klein High School included the replacement of 13 existing buildings into one contiguous building. The project size and scope included 689,000 square feet of occupied space and the project timeline spanned over 54 months, which was spread over four building phases. Preconstruction Phase - Installation of 16 temporary buildings complete with covered walkways, all electrical, and all associated data and communication systems. Phase I - Construction included the Academic Wing and Athletic Wing with 494,868 square feet of new construction. It also included career and technology classrooms, shops, a greenhouse, a 4-story library/media, technology center, 23 science labs, classroom spaces, administration offices, and a 900-seat baseball stadium/complex, state-of-the-art culinary arts center, and cosmetology center. Phase II - Construction included a Performing Arts and Cafeteria Wing with 192,132 square feet of new construction, which included a 990-seat, 2-story performing arts auditorium and cafeteria with a dining center. Phase III - Construction included the campus site work package with more than 900,000 square feet of paving, student entry canopy, tennis complex, sidewalks, and landscaping. Kitchen was relocated from the Kegan (off-site) facility and meal production increased from 5,000 per day to 10,000 per day. Some renovations and expansion of warehouse to office space of the existing facility were made moving the emergency pantry to the new building, renovations for a new service, Teacher aid services, and renovations of the second-floor office space. Category: Community / Non-Profit The mission of The Children's Assessment Center is to provide a professional, compassionate, and coordinated approach to the treatment of sexually abused children and their families and to serve as an advocate for all children in our community. The Center houses one of the largest advocacy programs in the nation and has provided services for more than 50,000 sexually abused children in our community since 2000, and averages approximately 5,000 clients annually. Constructed on a very dense urban site in Rice Village, the new Center was completed in three phases. < Back to Projects University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston Infrastructure-Ike Recovery Owner: University of Texas Architect: AEI Affiliated Engineers Size: 180 acres Category: Infrastructure The project encompassed a 180-acre, 114 building, campus-wide infrastructure repair of distribution systems including cathodic protection, potable water, fire alarm system communications, fire suppression, domestic water, storm sewer, diesel supply loop, underground fuel tanks, building card readers, security systems, above-ground propane tanks, electrical emergency power, steam transmission, condensate return system, chilled water systems, electrical power, telecommunication systems, underground telecommunication, and data cabling. The campus includes 17,400 linear feet of piping for both chilled water supply and return and heating hot water supply and return. The chilled water supply and return included piping ranging in size from 8" to 36" in diameter. The heating hot water supply and return included piping ranging in size from 3" to 16" in diameter. The project also included the construction of the new 65,000-square-foot East Plant. The plant provides redundant heating and hot water systems for the campus. Installation of a gas and steam turbine engine facilitates power to operate the facility and includes a heat recovery steam generator and a 1-megawatt BLACKSTART generator, which allows for the emergency start of every system in the building during a power outage. Water is provided through a thermal energy tank located adjacent to the building with storage capacity of just over 2 million gallons. To play, press and hold the enter key. Category: Education - Higher Ed The Center for Petrochemical, Energy, and Technology is a 152,000-square-foot facility which includes process operations, instrumentation, electrical, nondestructive testing, and craft trades. It also includes an 8,000-square-foot glycol distillation unit to teach process operations and develop troubleshooting skills for students and incumbent workers. A state-of-the-art control room inside the building operates the glycol distillation unit with an emphasis on optimizing safety, efficiency, and ergonomic human factors.
