The Orangutan Holding Building is one of several ongoing projects at the Houston Zoo as part of their Centennial Campaign. This building is considered the first phase of the overall project, with the Orangutan Exhibit being the second phase of the complete make-over of the existing exhibit. The project consisted of the fabrication and installation of new interior caging, transfer tunnels within the building to each holding area, installation of a transfer tunnel thru the roof structure and into the exhibit, and all related structural modifications and roof replacement. The first phase was completed in advance of the exhibit work to create a better environment to contain the animals during the remodeling of the exhibit.
