Category: Education - K-12 - ISD Katy Independent School District encompasses 181 square miles in the suburban area to the west of Houston. The District serves over 62,000 students with 53 schools, including six 4 year high schools. The schools reconstruction involved the replacement of the existing west campus and the renovation of the main entry security station. The kitchen and the natatorium were renovated. The redevelopment program included the replacement of the auditorium, gymnasium, and wrestling room. The entire school was redesigned to be more energy efficient, utilizing several large windows which enabled natural sunlight to enter the school. The schools cafeteria was improved to allow a more efficient flow in the serving lines, while also providing additional equipment space in the kitchen. The Black Box Theater was relocated on campus to a more efficient space to enhance the functionality of the schools traffic flow. To play, press and hold the enter key. Because the project occurred in an occupied setting, the construction was phased to accommodate. Great attention was paid to scheduling and phasing during preconstruction. On the interior, the work includes renovations to Levels 1 and 2 lobbies, including opening the existing structure for a new monumental staircase, new interior storefront systems, new finishes throughout a new coffee bar/sitting area, and renovations to the sky bridge. The project required a safe and serviceable design to provide an enhanced work environment for ONEOK employees. The company is currently in the process of a major expansion to better service their petrochemical clients who are growing their facilities or converting existing facilities to utilize price advantaged NGL (Natural Gas Liquids) feedstocks. Category: Education - K-12 - ISD The 195,000-square-foot campus was constructed in the heart of the Texas Medical Center and accommodates up to 1,000 students. The school is dedicated to providing a rigorous and comprehensive pre-college program for students pursuing careers in medicine, health care, and/or the sciences. The heart of the school is a central open atrium that is surrounded by five floors. The first floor is the cafeteria, while the remaining four floors are dedicated to classrooms and teaching space. The new school features teaching labs for dental, rehabilitation, and patient care with mannequins similar to what community colleges and universities use, and the science labs are designed to feel more like a research lab instead of a high school science classroom. In addition to instructional facilities, the school includes a gym, an arts center, a music room, and outdoor terraces. As a dedicated magnet school for health professions which originally opened at Baylor College of Medicine, DeBakey has always had close ties to the Medical Center. This connection enables the school to give its students extraordinary opportunities that are not available elsewhere and that will provide them with a head start for a successful future. A Cooling Tower was added to enhance the facility's climate control capabilities, while a Structural Slab with an Underground Void System was installed to provide a solid foundation and accommodate necessary infrastructure. Additionally, a level 7 Clean Room was established to meet stringent cleanliness standards vital for laboratory work. The project also included the installation of new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems (MEP) to support the advanced technological needs of the space.
