Category: Education - Higher Ed The renovations and new construction associated with the South Colleges Expansion accommodate growth, reconcile issues of building system obsolescence, allow increased accessibility, and enhance the existing amenities in each college. At Baker College the existing kitchen and servery were demolished and a new one-story kitchen and servery was constructed. A connecting four-story residential wing was constructed and houses 108 students. At the Will Rice College the existing 1955 residential wing was demolished to make way for a new four-story residential wing capable of housing 127 students. The first floor of this building includes laundry, a computer room, and a music room. The superstructure is primarily structural steel, but there are several architectural concrete columns that required formwork imported from Europe to cast. The skin is a combination of precast concrete, metal panels, and glass. The Engineering & Technology Center will increase the instructional capabilities of the South Campus to provide the community with opportunities to advance skills & high growth trades. The project also includes renovation of 14,000-square-foot and a 7,000-square-foot addition to the existing parish center. Before demolition of the existing sanctuary, Tellepsen helped the church turn the gym into a temporary worship center. Once the new sanctuary was complete, the gym was renovated. Other renovations were made to accommodate administrative offices and a reception area. Tellepsen was selected at the beginning of design to work with the design team providing scheduling, estimating, and value engineering services throughout the design phase.
