Category: Parks / Open Spaces The South Americas Pantanal exhibit allows guests to explore the tropical wetlands of Brazil right here at the Houston Zoo. The lush habitat highlights protected animals in the wild and the exhibit features habitats for jaguars, howler monkeys, giant river otters, macaw and curassows, turtles, rays, anacondas, mixes species with tapir, giant anteater, rhea and capybara, and a South American bird walk- through aviary. The Zoo offers guests the chance to see these animals in an immersive and engaging trail. As you enter the South Americas Pantanal exhibit, you encounter a set of rustic buildings, set on piers, evoking the eco- lodges that can be found alongside the rivers and streams in the Northern Pantanal region. Category: Healthcare (New | Major Addition) CHI St. Luke's Springwoods Village Hospital is a LEED Silver certified, six-story, 155,000 square-foot full-service hospital serving the Springwoods Village development in North Houston. Constructed on a 23-acre site, the campus includes a 55,000-square-foot ambulatory medical center and 100,000 square-foot medical office building. The hospital possesses all of the aspects one would hope for in a full-service healthcare facility. It features emergency rooms, pre-op and post-op surgical services, primary care services, diagnostic imaging, central sterile area, fully functioning kitchen, endoscopy services, and patient rooms. The top floor of the hospital is reserved for the mechanical systems. The campus also features a tree reserve with additions and replacements for those which were removed for construction. For each tree removed, two more were planted in the reserve. The first two floors of the building are reserved for hospital operations. The medical office building is located on floors three through six. Each of these floors possesses 25,000 square feet of shell space totaling 100,000 square feet of medical office space. Category: Education - Higher Ed The San Jacinto College South Campus Engineering & Technology Center is a new 74,000-square-foot building which houses the following programs: engineering, engineering design graphics, biomedical equipment repair technician, and computer information technology. This facility consists of classrooms, administrative spaces, and various labs, including a MakerSpace featuring a 3D printshop, metal shop, and wood shop to allow students to build their designs. The superstructure is primarily structural steel, but there are several architectural concrete columns that required formwork imported from Europe to cast. The skin is a combination of precast concrete, metal panels, and glass. The Engineering & Technology Center will increase the instructional capabilities of the South Campus to provide the community with opportunities to advance skills & high growth trades. Category: Office / Corporate (Interiors) Tellepsen constructed a 7,315 square-foot headquarters for Marathon Administrative Company, Inc. featuring two conference rooms, executive huddle area, three executive offices, open workspace, full kitchen, lounge, and executive bathroom. The floor plan emphasized open concept design with elegant granite, tile, light fixtures, and millwork ceilings for optimal acoustics and aesthetics. Wood ceiling slats and sound baffles were incorporated for further acoustic enhancement. Floor-to-ceiling glass demountable office fronts balanced openness with privacy. Additionally, the build included a striking architectural metal art niche with a live display area to showcase business statistics and diversity. Category: Parks / Open Spaces Construction included new landscape and hardscape areas with decomposed granite trails, lawns, paver/stone plazas and terraces, planting zones, a 5.5 acre lake and native wetlands. We also constructed a boardwalk decking at the lake perimeter and throughout the woods, food truck area and chalk wall, three picnic pavilions and a new restroom building. Each building has a steel structure and wood tongue and groove deck with metal roofing. The picnic pavilions contain masonry fireplaces and tables. The new Vibrant location is part of Memorial Parks Running Complex, a major hub and access point on the south side of the park that opened in November. Located southwest of the Kinder Land Bridge and Cyvia and Melvyn Wolff Prairie, the Running Complex was designed as a central gathering spot and serves as a new gateway to enjoy the Bayou Wilds trails of Memorial Park. The Running Complex also features the Roy H. Cullen Timing Track a 400-meter, five-lane track and an event plaza that will be available to rent for private events in the future. The running complex complements the adjacent Cullen Running Trails Center, which opened in 2014 and includes visitor services, restrooms and showers. Memorial Park's transformation The Running Complex is the latest project completed under the Memorial Park Master Plan and the associated Ten-Year Plan, which aim to enhance the park's green infrastructure and protect natural resources as well as improve recreational assets for the community. Category: Healthcare (New | Major Addition) The Memorial Hermann Health System has expanded their northeast campus with an additional bed tower. The scope of work included construction of a 5-story patient tower and mechanical penthouse and Beacon feature. In addition, the project included construction of central plant facilities and infrastructure to support the new bed tower and for future redundancies, as well as modifications to the south tower facade and site improvements. The new tower has 90 new inpatient beds, new food services area, new cardiopulmonary department, public circulation space, and MEP support space. Category: Education - Higher Ed The 167,000-square-foot, six-story research building provides critical laboratory space and animal facilities to boost the university's research capabilities. It includes innovative laboratories for patient-based research, and critical infrastructure for basic research as well as collaborative space for cross-disciplinary research. Researchers from optometry, psychology, neuroscience, natural sciences, mathematics, pharmacy, social sciences, and liberal arts will be able to collaborate more easily and readily on interdisciplinary projects that benefit the university as a whole. To support these facilities Tellepsen constructed the Biomedical District Utility Plant. The plant provides 4,500 tons of cooling capacity, 35,900 pounds per hour steam capacity, and 3,200 GPM of 140-degree heating water.
