Joint celebration with Texas Children's brings hospital's dream close to fruition

HOUSTON (July 22, 2009) - Tellepsen, a Houston commercial and industrial builder and cornerstone of the community, joined Texas Children's Hospital in the July 8 topping out of the hospital's new West Campus. When completed, the facility, which is being built by Tellepsen, will give residents in West Houston access to the world-renowned patient care of one the nation's top-ranked pediatric hospitals in the convenience of their community.

"Tellepsen is proud to celebrate the vision of West Houston and the Katy area, as children and families will have access to the best pediatric care possible," said Howard Tellepsen, Jr., chairman and CEO of Tellepsen. "Our specialty is building, but our goal has always been to be a part of something larger than ourselves. We began our relationship with Texas Children's nearly 60 years ago with the construction of the original Texas Children's Hospital, and today, in our centennial year, we're happy to be able to honor these friendships that are the lifeblood of our company."

Tellepsen began construction of the Texas Children's Hospital West Campus in 2008 on a 55-acre tract of land between Interstate 10 and Barker Cypress. The hospital will include more than 500,000-square feet of ambulatory, diagnostic, office and inpatient/outpatient facility space, along with a central utility plant, when completed. The outpatient clinic building and inpatient facility are scheduled to open in late 2010.

"Building the West Campus - our first community hospital - has been a long-time dream for Texas Children's," said Mark A.Wallace, president and CEO of Texas Children's Hospital. "We want to share our dream with this community and with the children and families that live here in these neighborhoods."

Tellepsen also is constructing the Texas Children's Hospital Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute, the world's first comprehensive, multi-disciplinary pediatric neurological research center, in Houston's Texas Medical Center.
