Tellepsen Awarded Contracts for Rice University Expansion

New facility development to serve Rice University's growing student body

HOUSTON (April 23, 2008) - Fourth-generation Houston builder, Tellepsen  announced today that the company has been awarded more than $50 million in construction and pre-design contracts for three expansion projects on the Rice University campus in downtown Houston, all of which will replace older facilities to serve the university's growing student body.

“Educational institutions like Rice University, are preparing for an influx of students as the Millennium Generation comes of age over the next five years,” said Howard Tellepsen, chairman and CEO of Tellepsen. “These important projects will equip Rice with means to respond to the increasing demand for state-of-the-art educational resources in Houston.”

The two-story, multi-use Recreational & Wellness Center, slated to break ground on April 22, 2008, will house student leisure and athletic activities. The center will feature two basketball and squash courts, four racquetball courts, weight and cardio rooms, a 2,500-square foot recreational pool and a 50-meter, outdoor competition swimming pool.

The Rice Continuing Studies building and Conference Center projects are expected to commence in mid 2009 pending funding. Currently in the pre-design phase, these two facilities are expected to add over 75,000 square footage of renovated space.

“Our relationship with Rice University extends to 1921, when Tellepsen built the Rice University Chemistry Building and and we are honored that this continues today nearly a century later,” continued Tellepsen.
